Creative Jewelry Photography: Diversifying Our Photos Saturday, June 14, 2014
As you may have heard, we decided a few months ago that it was time to really spice up our photography. After having all of our jewelry photographed on a white background for quite some time, we realized it was time to change things up. Although a white background can do wonders for jewelry, especially when uniform photos are needed, a desire for more diverse photography arose. Our photographer, Amanda Call, has been an absolute delight in helping us create jewelry photos that focus on the unique details and beauty of our designs while increasing the diversity of our jewelry photography. Take a look at our foray into creative jewelry photography, as we share with you some of our most loved photos of our jewelry taken by Amanda Call.
Our Bronze Ship Wheel Necklace is photographed on a darker background. The necklace dangles from a stand, which can be seen behind it, but the stand does not take away the focus from the gorgeous bronze tone and lovely design of our Bronze Ship Wheel Necklace.
Our Gold Heart Earrings definitely stand out on this silvery-gray background. Placing the earrings off-center gives the photo even more artistic quality, perfect for the handmade style of these earrings.
Our Lemon Jade Tear Drop Earrings that have been wire wrapped with bronze have their boho appeal beautifully complemented by the lace background in this jewelry photo.
Photographed on a mirror that beautifully reflected the clear blue sky and overlooking green trees on a lovely spring day, our Bronze Anchor and Rope Necklace still shows all of it's intricate details in this style of jewelry photography.
Dangling off a crisp, sky blue covered book, our Silver Crystal Camera Necklace really shines in this creative jewelry photo. The crystal camera lens absolutely glistens and the antiqued silver shines brilliantly in front of this lovely prop.
Our Penny Lane Necklace really makes it's mark in this photo. The necklace boldly stands out upon the rust-hued stand and crimson background. The charm placed in the center makes for an eye-catching focal point, while the chain circling the edge makes for a unique look.
Using different props, backgrounds and layouts has really helped to take our jewelry photography to the next level. We are so thankful for Amanda Call for all of her hard work and expertise in helping create jewelry photos for our line that are both unique and exciting.

Our Earrings Were Featured on "Hart of Dixie" Thursday, May 29, 2014
We've recently found out about some HUGE news for ideology! A pair of our handmade Amethyst Trio Earrings were recently featured on the hit CW television show "Hart of Dixie." You can see our earrings on the Season 3 Finale, Episode 22 entitled "Second Chance," which aired on May 16, 2014. Our handmade earrings were worn by Don Todd's ex-wife, played by Tisha French.
Our handmade Amethyst Trio Earrings were gifted to the wardrobe stylist of "Hart of Dixie" in late 2013 in consideration for use on the popular television show as part of a collaborative gift bag from The Artisan Group. We didn't find out that our earrings were used on the show until it aired, so we delightfully surprised to discover this amazing news!
We're so thrilled to have had this excellent opportunity thanks to The Artisan Group and "Hart of Dixie," and we're looking forward to having many more awesome experiences in the future with our handmade jewelry collection!
Interview with Sienna Olin Kittelman of Zoe and Piper Thursday, May 1, 2014
Check out our interview with Sienna Olin Kittelman, the jewelry designer behind Zoe and Piper!
Tell me a bit about yourself and your creations:
I have been in the jewelry business for 15 years, showcasing a wide array of artisan jewelry throughout the years. In 2013, I started a new line of sterling silver and gemstone jewelry that showcased my style and philosophy... Zoe and Piper was born! The name is inspired by my daughter, Piper. If only we could see the world through a child's eyes, wouldn't it be a better place? I also donate a portion of my proceeds to animal sanctuaries and animal advocacy groups.
What inspires you to create?
I am draw to designs that have meaning to them. Positive affirmations, quotes and yoga inspired designs. The Om symbol, buddha and lotus flower have always been important symbols to me, and I like to incorporate them into my work.
Describe your creative process:
I look for inspiration everywhere... nature, magazines, fashion. If I see something that catches my eye in a magazine I will tear the page out or photograph it with my phone to reference later. I tend to design in spurts and put all my focus on creating new pieces for awhile. Then my focus turns towards photographing the new jewelry. I have always had a love affair with photography, so I enjoy this process too.
What are some of your own favorite creations?
My 'herbivore' pendant is special to me, because it was the first design I created on my own. There isn't much jewelry out there for vegetarians or vegans, and while I didn't want an "in your face" design, I did want to create something that sent that message out into the world.
How do you want your craft and business to evolve?
I want to keep growing and expanding on my line of jewelry and add new techniques to my designs. I am currently taking a bench working jewelry class and learning the basics of that trade. I'm excited to refine my skill and start offering new designs using these new techniques.
What or who influences you as an artisan?
Mother Nature, buddhist beliefs and my daughter, Piper.
What brings people to seek out your creations, and what makes your work unique?
I speak to the yoga lover and the eco-conscious person who want to feel good about what they are wearing and send a little good karma out to the world while they are at it. My jewelry can do that.
What choices have you made that helped your business the most?
Not listening to other people's suggestions to crank out the popular 'it' item of the moment. I make jewelry that has personal meaning to me and isn't just a fad or trend.
What advice would you give to other artisans?
To create jewelry that you are passionate about - your passion will infuse the piece, and other people will appreciate it all the more.
Where can your creations be found?
On my website, www.ZoeAndPiper.com.
Jewelry Care Tips: Wearing Jewelry Monday, April 21, 2014
Jewelry is a treasured possession for many, as it's often received as a gift or purchased as a treat for oneself. So, it's incredibly important that jewelry is properly cared for, especially since many pieces of jewelry are much more delicate than other personal items we have. Find out some of the best jewelry care tips to keep in mind when wearing jewelry:
Don't Wear Jewelry in Showers or Pools
It's important to remember to take your jewelry off anywhere it might get wet, such as in showers, swimming pools or spas. Depending on the material of jewelry, water can damage it, and chlorinated water can do even further damage.
Remove Jewelry Before Physical Tasks
It's important to take off your jewelry before you do any physical tasks, such as cleaning, gardening, cooking, or working in the garage. Jewelry can become damaged when exposed to different chemicals, or can get caught on things when your busy doing other tasks and may break.
Remove Jewelry Before Playing Sports
Sports can be incredibly physical activities, so it's very important to remember to take off any jewelry you're wearing before playing sports. Jewelry can easily get caught on equipment, your clothing or even another player and may get broken or damaged, so it's important to take off your jewelry before participating in any sports.
Apply Cosmetics Before Putting on Jewelry
When you're planning on wearing any cosmetic products, perfumes, makeup or hair care products, it's important to apply them before you put on your jewelry. The chemicals in these products can damage jewelry, so make sure you put on any jewelry you're going to wear after your look is otherwise complete!
These are just a few jewelry care tips to keep in mind when wearing jewelry. Do you have any other tips people should keep in mind when wearing jewelry? Feel free to tell us about them in the comments!
